It Pays to Be Right

I thought I would let you guys do all the work this time. OK, I did have to think of the jazzy titles. Mostly after the first link, you are looking at explanations.

Except for the last one, which needs no explanation.

Pair of Ragged Claws Scuttling

Snail on a Razor
Grocery Clerk (mostly my comments)
Absolutely Goddamn Right

Someday this War's Gonna End

Death Card
It's Gonna Be Hot

And I thought: My God... the genius of that. The genius

One of Those Guys that had that Weird Light Around Him

The question is, are you quoting TS Eliot, or Dennis Hopper ("a pair of ragged claws scuttling")?

If the former, damnit man, I have the patent on obscure TS Eliot quotes as headlines!

I guess the answer is in the other quotes.

Hi Dave,

Love the blog, even though most of it is either over my head or obscure bollocks :-)

But like the hunter, "I'm not really here for the poker"

I am here to assist you with your linking difficulties.
How to link in blogger

or for the nuts and bolts under the bonnet method (the best one)
click me fat boy
Using the target attribute may be of some use to you, blogger won't let me demo it as its not my blog but it is available to the authors.

This is fairly simple stuff Dave and I am surprised that you are not on top of it yet

Hope this helps, if I can be of any further assistance blah blah...

Cheers
Steve

BTW

the reason your formatting is all over the place is that hendonmob link, there are no breaks in it so the browser just shoves everything out of the way.
If you put a break in it then it wont work, but it doesn't work anyway, I can feel a dizzy spell coming on.

He is quoting something far more important (although Dennis Hopper is not entirely unrelated).

Extreme prejudice.

Well, of course, my point was that, although most people would be aware of Dennis Hopper's use of the phrase "a pair of ragged claws scuttling", fewer would be aware that it was a line from TS Eliot's The Love Story of Alfred J Prufrock.

The Eliot quotes were, I believe, inspired by Brando, who came up with the concept of reading from "We Are The Hollow Men". However, it was only when I recently watched Apocalypse Now for the umpteenth time that I spotted Hopper throw in this line. Clearly it can't have been in the original script, since the Eliot stuff was Brando's idea. So I assume that Hopper and Brando had been discussing TS Eliot, and Hopper threw the line in.

For fans of the movie, a read-through of "The Hollow Men" and "The Love Story of Alfred J Prufrock" throws light on the character of Kurtz as much as does a rereading of Heart of Darkness.

Who said poker sites weren't educational?

Dave,

Off-topic, but do you happen to know the identity of a player using the alias SOFIAGIRL on Party Poker with location Bury St Edmonds?

Thx,
WM

Winter,

I tried to think of a witty way to say "no", but I couldn't. Is Ribbo back in those games, or is he winning his $250k in the 0.5-1 still?

Andy,

I dont begrudge pommo his fame or glory at all. Its clear that he has won far more than me and is probably a much better player than I could ever aspire to be. But when he talks about meta-poker issues he talks the most in(s)ane shite I have ever seen from such a high stakes winning player.

Hi Dave,

Got a question for you.

I am in the UK and need some advice about the cheapest/zero cost way of getting my money on and off Party (like the debit card setup at UK crypto sites).

I have a Neteller acc, but the currency exchange charges are laughable.

Cheers

the link guy, you owe me :P

Dave,

I haven't seen Ribbo anywhere... last I heard from him, he claimed to be killing the 10/20 PLO at Stars. Perhaps he's made an alias change, but I'm trying to keep track of locations a little bit and haven't seen anyone from Warrington at the tables either.

That SOFIAGIRL person is very strange... seems to enjoy lurking the $2k games and then accusing me of hit-and-run every time I sit out or get up when the game fills up or gets unfavorable in another way. Nevermind the fact that I've put in 7500 hands at that level--every time I quit, that guy has a wiseass comment about how I'm "scared" or whatever. Anyhow, I figured since his location sounds British, I might as well take a shot in the dark and see if he's an acquaintance of yours.

Cheers,
WM

You can withdraw from Party to a UK switch/maestro account too. I *think* you have to deposit it with it first, although I'm far from sure. Not sure on the exchange rates, but it is quick and clean.

I can trump that...I actually saw him on the 10/20, where after winning an incredibly easy pot (top trips and 2nd nut flush draw on flop, flush on turn, nut full on river.) he immediately ran off. One of those ones where he clicked "sit out" whilst his Foe was dwelling up just to make absolutely sure.

And no I wasnt looking for him, rather Darwinism who I thought I had caught playing 300-600 Triple Draw...

Hey Dave which name do you play under in the stars omaha game, or can you divulge it in an email. I would liek to discuss some PLO with you.

Big Dave D said...

Reddog,

My Stars name is not so much a secret as much as not very well known. Which is how I like it. Having said that, I have no intention of playing there again, or even of playing much PLO at all.

If you want to discuss PLO, just post it in a comment. We do it all the time. The comments are normally better than the blog :)
