I'm not sure I like bottom set that much. With only three people seeing the flop I guess you are safe. But how much would your opponent have to raise on the flop/turn/river to get you to drop the hand? Would you have checked the river if the flush came or the board straighten out?
If I played your hand, I would have bet 40 on the turn and 80 on the river.

I generally don't play pocket pairs nine or less to avoid set over set problems.

I don't understand what is so remarkable about this hand? You have no indication that you're not good at any point.

And who was the foe, by the way?

Commentor 1....I was in the big blind here...Im loose but I dont voluntarily play 22 :-) The only way I am going to find out where I am is by betting. With this kind of flop and turn trips will definately "wake up". Therefore by the river I am 90% certain I am in front. This comes to Commentator 2...why did I post the hand? If you look at the hands I posted just previously, there is an example where I have the nuts and do not bet the full pot, even though, thinking it through, this is by far the best bet to make. I kicked myself afterwards. This is, to my mind, a very similar situation. If he is going to call any bet, he will certainly call a pot sized one. Even more so as it may look more like a draw that missed. Betting less than the pot, my natural urge, is leaving money on the table.

Hi Dave

As another UK internet pro, I just wanted to say that your blog makes fascinating reading, keep up the regular posts! Also, I would be very interested to hear any more of your thoughts/ hands for PLO8 as that is what I am concentrating on just now.

Best wishes

Oddly enough, I think one weakness in my game is not betting less than the pot enough. As a result, I'm charging myself too much to bluff, and pricing people out of pots that I really want them in. I just haven't mastered the small/medium/large bet mixed strategy yet, so I generally just give up that value and go with the pot.

Hi Pete

I've posted a quite interesting mixed strategy hand, albeit PLO8b. I think it is also somewhat a cultural thing...US guys tend to bet the pot; Europeans tend to mix it up. I do feel it is a strong element to add to your game.
